Back In Town

Once again, I have not been forthright. We've been out of town for eight days, in St. John, USVI. I wrote all those blog posts and put them "in the can" to make it look like we were home so you would not rob us. I'll post pictures soon.

Bull City Craft

Yes! A new source for my writing notebooks, even closer to home: the just-opened Bull City Craft. I used to use Canson, now I'm into Moleskines, and next I'll try the morereasonablypriced Leuchtturm notebooks. Damn, I envy those Germans and their creativity with long words. In the first instance, I opted for a hyphen, but in the next sentence I just decided I was going to be like the Germans and mash everything together. It would have been much more German if I'd boldly added the noun to the long adjective to make a noun of the whole thing (and even more bold to capitalize it), but I'm just easing into this.

Upstairs Downstairs

It saddens me that I must wait until next week to watch the third installment of "Upstairs Downstairs." I've heard they're continuing production. I hope it's true.

This American Life

Ooo, I'm very excited about this week's This American Life podcast. It includes that story about Van Halen's contract always insisting that brown M&Ms be removed; I'd heard that one before.

Spring Break

Yes! The kids are on spring break. I have mowed and fired up the weed trimmer, and I've even knocked down three very small wasp nests under the porch (if the kids didn't play there, I wouldn't care). I also patched up two holes made by carpenter bees. Let the warm weather fun begin.

I trust that like good Durham denizens you've all completed the Indy's Best of the Triangle survey.

Visit Hogwarts!

Forgive me for being behind the times, but I only just learned there's a Harry Potter theme park. I have no wish to go to such a place.

Serenading Unicorn

I find the Serenading Unicorn both creepy and intriguing.

Vlamingen in Durham Raleigh Chapel Hill Cary Apex

Last Thursday our merry band of Flemish-speaking people had its monthly beer quaffing meeting at Tyler's, and I was reminded that we have no Web presence to alert other Flemings in the area. What follows will be a nonsensical string of phrases and words that I hope will create an enticing snare for Googling Flemish speakers in the Triangle area. Ahead-of-time apologies to regular readers.

Vlamingen in Durham. Vlamingen in Chapel Hill. Vlamingen in Raleigh. Vlamingen in Cary. Vlamingen in North Carolina. Flemish. Flanders. Belgium. Triangle. North Carolina. Vlaams talig vlaams talige. Zijn er hier anderen vlaams-talige mensen in... Nederlandstalig. Blah blah blah, ik ben in 't vlaams an 't schrijven. Blah blah blah Antwerpen Gent Oostende Lier Brasschaat Nijlen De Kempen Middelkerke Kortrijk Poperinge Limburg Turnhout Vosselaar, Belgiƫ, Belgisch, Belgische, Belgium, Vlaanderen...

--Bob (of wel stuur iets direct: bob.s-k **AT**thatcherforest PUNT com )

Two Things

Maaaaaan, Bull City Burger still hadn't brewed any beer this weekend. Sheeyut. I want me some. We must wait. Again.

Kimberly and the kids saw Hop this weekend and liked it.

He Who Vitiated It Initiated It

Over dinner this evening Kimberly casually informed the family that Malawi is considering a ban on farting in public places. Wow, that's a good one. I sniffed around and found this, which has inspired me to start using a new word. "Who vitiated the atmosphere?"

Middle School Crash

Many tears and hugs around here tonight. Emma has two projects coming due in the middle of April, and she's very stressed out. I snuggled her for a good while as she tried to catch her breath. We looked at the project timelines and figured out that it will work, little bits at a time. Then she sat for a few minutes on the couch in the dark living room with her sister, talking things over. And finally, we finished the evening with cold milk and warm chocolate chip cookies. She's feeling much better.
