Saturday morning the grass in the front yard was blistering up in a big mound with water sprinkling out the edges. The city shut off our water supply, we went without water for a couple of days, and yesterday the plumbing people and the backhoe people dug a huge trench in our yard and repaired the broken pipe. The checking account is bruised, but water is restored.

Alert
This just in from the police via one of our e-mail lists: if you see a burgundy Chevrolet Impala, South Carolina license plate GQB 528, it's casing the area for a break-in.

Shoe Repair
1 - 2 Shoe Renew does good work. I've owned the same pair of Rockport shoes for 17 years and recently had them resoled there.

Uncle Roger
A dear friend died last month. He was the father of childhood neighbors and playmates, but my sister and I spent so much time at their house that Mr. and Mrs. Banner very soon became Uncle Roger and Aunt Ceci. He was 92 years old when he passed away November 6th. He's buried in Union Cemetery in Leesburg, VA, a few hundred yards from our childhood home.

Amadeus
I never saw the movie Amadeus, but yesterday the kids and I made the jaunt to Raleigh to watch Kimberly sing in the chorus for a stage-production version of it. Most fabulous it was. Very nice. I'd recommend it, but it's over.
